5 Wineries to Visit in Oliver and Osoyoos

Golden Mile and Black Sage Bench wine regions have become quite famous demonstrated through its robust reds and full-flavored whites. The two wine regions are situated between Oliver and Osoyoos, BC. The wine regions are gaining the attention of the international wine market rather fast.

  1. Another Burrowing Owl Estate Winery farms all sorts of diverse grapes. These range from vines of red wine, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Syrah; for whites, they have Chardonnay and Pinto Gris. Lately, this gravity flow cellar is one thing differentiating Burrowing Owl Estate Winery from other wineries in Okanagan. This gravity flow system produces a gentle treatment for the grapes. They eliminate pumps every time grapes are moved. This process prevents bruising or any external damage to the fruit.
  2. Silver Sage Winery was named after the sagebrush that Anne and Victor Manola cleared to plant the vineyard. The winery grows four varieties of grapes: Pinot Blanc, Merlot, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir. Along with grapes, they grow blueberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, and apricots for their fruit dessert wines. In fact, those fruit dessert wines are the first to be produced in Canada. They are made with a combination of fresh fruit and grapes.
  3. The wine style of the Gehringer Brothers is a marriage between terroir, ripe fruit, and firm acid. It is also with the assistance of a little science. The wines are produced in large stainless-steel tanks ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 liters. All their wines go straight into bottles from the stainless steel tank. Gehringer Brothers do not use barrels for any of their wines. This is because Walter Gehinger believes that making good wine is all about breathing.
So instead of using a barrel, they provide their wine with a constant rate of oxygenation. The wine that they produce, is one that can be enjoyed by everyone and suits all palates. They do this by having a very good understanding of their vineyard, how to manipulate the fruit during the growing season, and what flavors they have to work with.
  4. Rust Wine Company was born to help rejuvenate small single-lot vineyards. Rust sources their grapes from four exceptional vineyards, in order to demonstrate the unmistakable terroirs of small lot single vineyards in the South Okanagan wines. Rust Wine Company has taken a unique approach with its labels. The pictures on the labels are of rust that had been found all over the province of BC.
  5. Hester Creek Vineyard was planted over fifty years ago by an Italian winemaker named Joe Busnardo. Making Hester Creek one of the oldest wineries in the South Okanagan. Some of Joe’s varieties are still flourishing, including Pinot Blanc, Trebbiano, “Italian Merlot”, and Cabernet Franc. These old vines bring an old-world Italy feel to the vineyard. Hester Creek has grown to 115 acres of vineyard with a distinct terroir.
