Experience the beauty and flavors of Lake Country on the Scenic Sip Wine Trail.
What Is Lake Country’s Scenic Sip Wine Trail and Why Is It Worth Visiting?
Where Is the Scenic Sip Wine Trail Located?
The Scenic Sip Wine Trail is located north of Kelowna, in Lake Country BC. A rural town aptly named, being nestled between three spectacular lakes: Okanagan Lake, Wood Lake, and Kalamalka Lake.
The city is dotted with rolling hills, orchards, and vineyards that render beautiful scenery from any vantage point. Following is a listing of some great wineries along the Scenic Sip Wine Trail.
Gray Monk Estate Winery
Since its beginning, Gray Monk Estate Winery has been part of the Okanagan Valley wine region for more than 45 years, making it one of the original wineries credited with developing the BC wine industry. They were some of the first to plant Pinot Gris in Canada.
The name Gray Monk comes from the English translation of the Austrian name of Pinot Gris, “Gray Monk.” Pinot Gris grapes are the most popular varietal planted in British Columbia.
ArrowLeaf Winery
ArrowLeaf Winery got its name from the yellow-blossomed Okanagan sunflower with its arrow-shaped leaves. These flowers are found throughout most of the North Okanagan.
ArrowLeaf Winery is run by the Zuppiger family. ArrowLeaf Winery took its focus from the unique locations within the Okanagan and the natural environment that the vineyard has. They grow varieties such as Riesling and Pinot Noir, the best varieties that do well in cooler climates.
Ex Nihilo Vineyards
Ex Nihilo Vineyards is Latin for “Out of Nothing,” named for a sculpture in Washington National Cathedral. Throughout the tasting room and wine shop, visitors will get an opportunity to see local artists showcased.
Attached is also a delicious little bistro called Chaos Bistro that serves artisan pizzas.
Intrigue Winery
Intrigue Winery is a boutique-style winery opened in 2008 by two local families who wanted to broaden their passion for wine. Its wines fall into price points with which everyone’s budget can identify.
They have won several awards at the All-Canadian Wine Championship.
O’Rourke Peak Cellars
O’Rourke Peak Cellars is the newest winery on the Lake Country Scenic Sip Wine Trail. It was formally known as The Chase.
This vineyard has approximately 100 acres of vines producing Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Rosé, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir.
Ancient Hills Estate Winery
Ancient Hills Estate Winery is a family-owned boutique winery. The structure of the building is quite uncommon. It feels as though visitors are inside a European castle when they enter the building.
They do everything on site at Ancient Hills; this includes growing the grapes, fermentation, and bottling. They specialize in aromatic wines.
