In 1992, Richard and Jitske Kamphuys traded the bustle of the Netherlands for Kelowna’s quiet beauty and their piece of paradise. The couple had bought an old orchard but soon learned fruit farming was a bit too unpredictable; they then discovered that the property had been a vineyard since the 1940s. Drawing inspiration from a group of pioneering Okanagan early viticulturists-the brothers Rittich-they replanted the vineyard in 2005 with varietals like Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, and the buried treasure varietal, Lemberger. This marked the birth of Ancient Hill Estate Winery: a place where ancient grounds would once again hum the sweet tune of history joined by passion. Under the baton of Christine Leroux, one of the most experienced winemakers in the region, Ancient Hill Estate Winery has grown steadily to become one of the highlights in the Okanagan Valley.
